Information
- Third graders will host the Magic House on Tuesday, February 4 from 11:45-1:30. The MH will provide simple machines and instruction, and five parents are needed to help the students build and use their own simple machines. Please email me if you are able to help!
- Immanuel Lutheran School has invited Zion students to a concert on Tuesday, January 28 to celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week. Please return the permission slip by Wednesday, January 22. Please email me if you are available to chaperone from 12:30-2:30. (You and your family are invited back to Immanuel for the evening concert at 6:30 that night.)
Repeats
- National Lutheran Schools Week will be celebrated January 25-31. It will be filled with special events and unusual dress days as we celebrate our school. See the Banner for more information.
- Third graders will participate in Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart on Wednesday, February 12 from 9:45-10:45. Please let Mrs. Steinbacher know if you're available to help. (msteinbacher@zionharvester.org)
- Students can earn a free ticket to Six Flags this summer through the "Read to Succeed" program. Students should document 360 minutes of reading and return the form by Monday, February 24.
- As we trudge through cold and flu season, please remember Zion's "24-hours of vomit/fever-free without medication" policy before sending your child back to school.

Religion
We will continue Unit 5- God Hears and Answers His People. God calls on us to pray according to His will.
Spelling
Spelling Pattern:
"y to ied" (like supplied)
(If a verb ends with a consonant + y, change the y to i and add -ed.)
Challenge: border, repeat, begin, sunny, whisper.
Grammar
We will focus on the verbs be, have, and do and their special forms for past and present tense.
Math
We will focus on ordinal position, money to $1,000, coins, and "Subtracting 7, 8, and 9" facts.
Science
We will review for our Chapter 9 test, which will be on Thursday, January 23.
Social Studies
Students have worked in groups and will present their "statues," on Wednesday (Cesar Chavez and Ruby Bridges) and Thursday (Lois Marie Gibbs and Judy Heumann). Each student should bring their assigned "prop" for their presentation.
