- Students should let Mrs. Roehrig know if they are interested in speaking or acting parts for our spring musical (Friday, May 2). Interest forms are included in Friday folders today and should be returned by Tuesday, January 28.
- Jump Rope for Heart packets are included in Friday folders today. Donation envelopes should be returned by Wednesday, February 12, but "duck coupons," may be redeemed at any time.
- Our Valentine's Day party will be on Thursday, February 13. If your child brings valentines, please note that we have 19 students in our class, and you can find a list of names on the information page of this blog. Also, please note Zion's new school-wide policy that candy should not be included with valentines. (Pencils, erasers, or temporary tattoos would be good alternatives.)
Repeats
- National Lutheran Schools Week will be celebrated January 25-31. It will be filled with special events and unusual dress days as we celebrate our school. See the Banner for more information.
- Immanuel Lutheran School has invited Zion students to a concert on Tuesday, January 28 to celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week. You and your family are invited back to Immanuel for the evening concert at 6:30 that night.
- Third graders will host the Magic House on Tuesday, February 4 from 11:45-1:30. The MH will provide simple machines and instruction, and five parents are needed to help the students build and use their own simple machines. Please email me if you are able to help!
- Third graders will participate in Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart on Wednesday, February 12 from 9:45-10:45. Please let Mrs. Steinbacher know if you're available to help. (msteinbacher@zionharvester.org)
- Students can earn a free ticket to Six Flags this summer through the "Read to Succeed" program. Students should document 360 minutes of reading and return the form by Monday, February 24.
- As we trudge through cold and flu season, please remember Zion's "24-hours of vomit/fever-free without medication" policy before sending your child back to school.

We will learn that linking verbs do not show action. Instead, they connect the subject to the rest of the sentence. (Molly is happy.)
Math
We will focus on making predictions, adding money amounts, square roots, temperature in Celcius, and calendar information. Our next test will be on Monday, January 27.
Science
We will begin Chapter 10- Work and Machines.
Social Studies
We will review what we have learned about Cesar Chavez, Ruby Bridges, Lois Marie Gibbs, and Judy Heumann for the Chapter 6 test on Tuesday, January 28.
